The Witches of the Cross-worlds came into being after Graham had watched his daughter become a prolific reader, but lamented the slim pickings on offer at the time of strong female protagonists in books geared toward younger readers. At the same time, a member of one of his writers groups had suggested he should expand on a short story he'd written about a girl in the Blue Mountains during the 1850s rescuing a fairy from a spider web. A short time later, the first Witches book was underway. With the third book, Nasqa Vengeance, coming soon, Graham's intention is to release one Witches book each year, with an ultimate aim of having nine books in the series. In the first book, Patsy McIntyre is just turning eleven, but by the end of the final book in the series, she'll be a woman. Will she marry and have children by then? Even Graham doesn't know the answer to that one.
