Graham Davidson started his career at an animation studio called Film Graphics back in 1978. Initially training to be a traditional character animator, he was in the right place at the right time to ride the wave of computerisation that transformed the industry in the 80s.
He was one of the first in Australia to design a piece of 3D vector based animation with a top and tail piece for Myers Adelaide. The original artwork for this was generated on an XY plotter (see picture).
Around this time he also became profecient operating controlled animation rostrums and motion control rigs, specialising in complex open shutter work. This period gave him a far greater appreciation of working with optics and light which led to him shooting much of his own work beyond jobs that required computerisation.
When desktop compositing began to replace optical printers and expensive post production suites he embraced the technology, his profecicency being such that he now provides customised training in the main software he works with, Blackmagic Fusion. He has also demostrated this software for Blackmagic Design at numerous trade shows.
He is also skilled in the use use of several 3D animation software packages including Softimage, Modo, Maya, Lightwave and Blender. He spent four years teaching Lightwave, After Effects and Final Cut Pro at Hunter TAFE.
